Organising sustainable events – a sustainability concept

The new concept presents measures and recommendations – and an interactive tool.

A sustainability concept was drawn up for the UN World Data Forum, as we don’t just want to talk about sustainability, we also want to live it. Two years after the event, we revised the concept and recompiled the measures and recommendations with partners inside and outside the Federal Administration.

The new concept also includes an overview of the advantages and disadvantages of on-site, hybrid and virtual conferences. The table is intended to help you decide which type of conference makes the most sense.

It covers a total of seven areas that need to be considered when organizing conferences: 1. CO2 reduction, 2. mobility, 3. catering; 4. logistics; 5. social; 6. economy; and 7. knowledge transfer. In total, we have drawn up 54 measures and 29 recommendations.

Of course, there are different types of conferences: short, long, with participants from abroad, etc. Therefore, not all measures and recommendations are useful for every event. For this reason, we have also developed an interactive tool that can help you to organize a sustainable conference tailored to your needs!

You can find the concept in PDF format at the bottom of this page: https://upd-initiative.ch/sustainability/
